The Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1985 to recognize and preserve sports history in the Rio Grande Valley.

The RGVSHOF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that was created by a group of sports-oriented citizens from the Rio Grande Valley.

The RGVSHOF strives to recognize deserving people who have brought recognition to the Rio Grande Valley through their contributions to sports. Currently, memorabilia for the RGVSHOF is stored at the Mission City Museum.

The organization also funds scholastic achievement awards for deserving college-bound student-athletes from schools around the Rio Grande Valley.
